A Comprehensive Guide to Choosing Your Heatlie BBQ

A Comprehensive Guide to Choosing Your Heatlie BBQ

Heatlie's range of quality Australian made barbecues cater for many different purposes. They're perfect for commercial cooking as well as home cooks looking to bring out their inner master chef. As such, it is important that when choosing a Heatlie product, you consider the purpose your BBQ will serve. All the BBQs in this post are designed for both home and professional use and can be operated by cooks of any skill level.

How Will You Use Your BBQ?

When you start your search, the number of quality options we provide may seem daunting. Whether you're looking for a barbecue that will complete your outdoor kitchen or a barbecue that will stand alone in your patio, we have a solution for you. Firstly, when reading through this section it could be helpful to think about how you will use your barbecue.

Built-In Outdoor Kitchens

The first option we provide is the Island Gourmet Elite, which is perfect for any outdoor kitchen and is made to be dropped into any bench top (Yes, even wood – the first outdoor BBQ that can do this!). This option is best suited for those who want to complete their outdoor kitchen and share it with their family and friends.

Roasting

If you love a good roast, and pine for the convenience of preparing it outside, the Snappy King is the option for you. An easy to clean outdoor oven that produces great results when roasting, cooking and barbecuing. This is best suited to those wanting to cook up full meals in their back yard. Whilst there isn’t any further customisation when purchasing the Snappy King (as it’s already got every feature you can think of), we do sell a vegetable rack, BBQ plate and end table designed especially for this oven that will further enhance your cooking experience. No more leaving your kitchen oven going inside in the middle of summer! If you're looking for something even bigger, we also have the Roaster for serious cook ups.

Traditional BBQs Made To Last

Lastly, we have our traditional BBQ available in 3 colours – Stainless Steel, Black and the Claret. These BBQs were built tough for chefs and can last for decades. They are best suited for barbecuers looking for a traditional BBQ, with precision-made burners and cooking plate that produce an even and reliable heat. These BBQs come either freestanding on a mobile cart, or for "built in" purposes, i.e. bolting to a flat benchtop surface.

BBQ Customisation

The benefit of Heatlie's 'made-to-order' manufacturing process is that it allows for ultimate customisation of your BBQ. With a range of different plates, legs, lids, colours, etc., you'll be able to fine-tune your BBQ to fit both your aesthetic style and your cooking needs.

Hot Plates

When it comes to your hot plate choice, you first need to choose the material. We recommend the Mild Steel option for your plate as it provides the best all-round cooking experience. However, if you are planning to use your BBQ near the sea, we do suggest the stainless-steel option to prevent rust.

Our standard plates come in 5mm sizes, however, if you are using your BBQ for commercial purposes, we recommend the 10mm size to provide better heat retention and less chance of warping over long periods of use. A 20mm plate is also available, aimed at being used for teppanyaki cooking mainly.

Legs & Carts

You can further customise your BBQ through the addition, or subtraction of certain features. You can choose to have legs, or not. The mobile cart legs allow you to conveniently wheel your BBQ around for maximum mobility. Without legs, you can bolt your BBQ onto a benchtop or surface in your backyard.

Lid & Hoods

Heatlie's BBQs can be purchased with or without a lid. Lids will protect your BBQ when not in use and can be purchased in stainless steel or a powder coat. The Island Gourmet Elite can also be converted into a roaster by attaching a hood for extra versatility in your outdoor kitchen. This is not available for the freestanding BBQ.

Burners and Gas

The last two choices when purchasing your Heatlie BBQ or Island Gourmet Elite are the burner material i.e. mild steel or stainless steel, and the gas type. As mentioned earlier, we strongly recommend the mild steel option unless you are near water or in an area susceptible to rust.

In terms of gas, we offer LPG and Natural Gas options. Natural Gas will give you the peace of mind that you'll never run out of gas mid-cook, however, you will need the appropriate connections in your back yard to hook it up. If you change your mind at a later date, we do offer a gas conversion kit.

Accessories

Once you've chosen your perfect BBQ, you can continue to add to its versatility by purchasing further accessories to go with it. We offer a splashback for mess-free cooking, covers to protect your investment, shelves for added convenience, and warming drawers so no one has to eat cold, or burned food. Check out our accessories page for more info.
