Beef Chow Mein

Beef Chow Mein

Nothing utilises the high heat capabilities of a Heatlie like stir fry!

We did a beef chow mein to put it to the test and the results were very delicious. Follow along the recipe below or change it up to your liking!

Ingredients

  • 500g mince beef
  • 4 cups green cabbage shredded
  • Cooking oil
  • 2 cloves of finely chopped garlic
  • 400g chow mein noodles
  • 2 carrots thinly sliced
  • 1 onion
  • 2 eggs

Sauce

  • 4 tsp cornflour (thickener)
  • 6 tbsp water (thickener)
  • 6 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 3 tbsp mirin
  • 4 tsp sugar
  • Pepper

Method

  1. Mix together cornflour and water to make the sauce thickener, then separately mix together the remaining sauce ingredients and set aside.
  2. Prepare you noodles as per packet instructions. Drain then set aside.
  3. Get your Heatlie fired up with both burners on high. Heat some canola oil and once hot, sizzle some garlic for a few seconds.
  4. Add the beef mince, breaking it up until browned all over.
  5. Add half the sauce, then the onion and cook for a couple minutes to caramelise the beef (the smell of this will drive you crazy!).
  6. Pour sauce thickener (cornflour and water mixture) into the mix to finish the sauce.
  7. Crack an egg over and mix around to scramble it. Once egg is cooked, add cabbage and carrots and cook till the cabbage is wilting.
  8. Let the noodles join the party and toss around in the heat so that all the ingredients get to know each other.
  9. Serve!

This is a really fun way to cook on your Heatlie. It's fast, easy and super quick, so give it a go.
