How to Order a BBQ Online

How to Order a BBQ Online

One of the most unique features of a Heatlie BBQ, is that there are many ways to customise how yours is built. You can pick from colours, finishes, materials, plate thicknesses and many more. With so much to choose from, it can be a little confusing or daunting, when all you want is a BBQ to cook meat!

The options are there for a reason though, and what you choose can have a big impact on your cooking experience. So the following is a simplified guide to ordering a BBQ from our online store. This way you know exactly what each option means and what you'll be getting. Let's start with the basics.

BBQs

Size

  • 700
  • 850
  • 1150
  • This is simple, it's just the size of the BBQ plate in width. The 700 while being our smallest option, is still a sizeable cooking plate perfect for small families. The 1150 is the big boy that you see being used in commercial operations. This is untested but we think roughly 200 sausages can fit on the plate at one time. The 850 is the middle ground, good for casual domestic use, but also holds merit for more heavy duty use.

    Material

    • Stainless Steel
    • Powder-coated black
    • Powder-coated claret (red)

This will determine the material/finish of the exterior panels, the stub legs, the mobile cart and lid. Stainless steel is always going to be the better choice for a heavy duty build, but as long as it's looked after, powder coated models will last forever too and they look pretty good.

    Plate Material

This is where things get more interesting. The BBQ plate is a big factor in how your BBQ can be used. Put simply...

    • Mild steel - best heat conduction, provides even heat spread
    • Stainless steel - easier to clean and maintain, but not as good at spreading heat

We will always recommend mild steel for the material due to the better cooking experience and it's cheaper!

    Plate Thickness

On top of this, you choose the plate thickness.

    • 5mm thickness - casual, domestic use
    • 10mm thickness - heavy-duty, commercial use

The thicker a plate, the more heat it can hold and for longer, meaning a more efficient and even cook. 10mm is recommended if the BBQ is being used for several hours straight.

    Burner

  • Mild steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Choosing burners comes down to longevity. You can generally expect a good decade or two from even the heavily used mild steel burners while stainless steel burners can last even longer and are essential when the BBQ is being used near the ocean.

    Gas Type

If you don't plan on ever moving your BBQ around, and have the infrastructure installed, Natural Gas is the way to go. You'll never have to worry about running out of gas again. For any other situation, LPG is best and most common.

    • LPG
    • Natural Gas

    Mounting

Do you want your BBQ on legs that can be moved around, or do you want no legs in order to bolt the main body of the BBQ up on a benchtop?

    • Mobile
    • Built-In

    Lid

Very simple, do you require a protective lid for the plate, or not? We generally recommend to have one to avoid the plate getting dirty when not in use.

All lids and legs will be the same colour/finish as you selected in the "Material" dropdown.

    Island Gourmet Elite

The Island Gourmet Elite is our built-in, outdoor kitchen style BBQ. Perfect for benchtops in alfresco kitchens. The ordering process follows a very similar flow to the BBQs.

    Size

As all IGE units come with stainless trim, there is no customising the colour or finish here. As for the size however you can pick from two plate widths.

    • 600
    • 850

    Plate Material

Same situation as the BBQ above, meaning we still recommend mild steel for the best cooking experience.

    • Mild steel
    • Stainless Steel

    Plate Thickness

As 10mm plates are usually used for commercial operations, and the IGE is more a domestic use BBQ, the sensible choice here is a 5mm plate. However there is nothing stopping you from going for a 10mm for that added heat retention and spread.

  • 5mm
  • 10mm
  • Plate Type

Grilled plates can be either mild or stainless steel, however can only be 5mm thick. Flat plates you have the full luxury of choice.

    • Flat
    • Grilled

    Burner

  • Mild steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Same as the BBQs above, IGE burners are well protected if you have the flat plate, but if you have the grill we'd recommend stainless burners as they will get covered in fat.

    Gas Type

Natural Gas is far more common for IGEs as they get built permanently into a cabinet with a fixed line the majority of the time. If you choose LPG you will need to make sure the cabinet is accounting for separate ventilation for the bottle.

    • LPG
    • Natural Gas
